Porsche 911 Speedster (NARROW BODY)

Highlights

  • One of only 161!
  • Factory paint
  • Top collector

The 911 Speedster, launched in 1989, was initially intended to be built on the upcoming 964-generation chassis, but ended up using the pre-existing 3.2 Carrera platform. Echoing the spirit of its acclaimed predecessor, the new model had a steeply sloped and lower windshield, an aerodynamic hump at the rear that covered a storage area where the rear seat used to be, and a sleek fabric roof that completely changed the car’s profile. At the rear is the same air-cooled 3.2-liter six-cylinder engine that was also used in the Carrera, mated to a five-speed Getrag G50 gearbox. A healthy 217 horsepower was transferred to the rear wheels, which – thanks to the model’s crash diet – ensured that the Speedster was as attractive to drive as it was to look at.

The bulk of production – accounting for some 1,943 units – consisted of “Turbo-look” specimens with front fenders, rear side panels and Fuchs alloy wheels, borrowed from the Turbo version of the 911. However, only 161 examples left Zuffenhausen with narrow bodywork!

We are proud to present one of these rare narrow-body examples, which left Stuttgart in June 1989 and was destined for Japan, as one of only 56 examples sold of the speedster on the Japanese market. Only 24 of these 56 examples had the narrow bodywork. In addition to the rare specification with no turbo look, our car is attractively finished in the ever-popular Slate Grey Metallic with a black leather interior. Worldwide, only 54 of the total production of 1,943 Speedsters, were produced in Slate Grey. It is unknown exactly how many narrowbody speedsters were delivered in Slate Grey, but statistically there will be no more than 5.

The first owner sold the car for export in August 2015 to Ronny Pannhorst, who sold it to the second owner in Switzerland in March 2016. The second owner sold the car in 2022 to the third owner in Belgium.

The mileage history is documented by the service booklet, service invoices and export documents:

  • 12/9/1989 – 63 km
  • 12-06-1989 – 1,889km
  • 15/10/2008 – 50,354 km
  • 10/12/2010 – 54,934 km
  • 23/12/2011 – 57,200 km
  • 12/12/2012 – 57,234 km
  • 25/12/2013 – 59,800 km
  • 25/3/2019 – 61,505 km
  • 14/09/2019 – 61,609 km

Today the car has 61,850km on the odometer.

It is believed that this rare speedster is 100% first paint, matching numbers and completely original. It is offered for sale with the original Japanese service booklet and lots of documentation.

The Porsche 911 Speedster is a rare and desirable model, especially in the rare narrow body configuration. Therefore, it certainly belongs in every Porsche collection!
