The Mercedes-Benz S-Class – the “Sonderklasse” – was once the brand’s flagship car, representing a tour de force of design and technical innovation, but it is also a car of pure, understated class.

In September 1979, the first series of the W126 series saw the light of day. This series is regarded by many Mercedes enthusiasts as the pinnacle of the S-Class. It was not only the last hand-built series, but also produced to the very highest standards.

The sedans were available as S, SE and SEL. The “E” stands for Einspritzer (German for injection engine) and “L” means Long. The wheelbase of the SEL was 14 cm longer.

In the fall of 1985, the series received a facelift. On the outside it can be recognized by the smooth bumpers and smooth side trim. The interior was also slightly updated.

A number of important safety technologies were introduced in the W126, such as electronically controlled ABS. It was also one of the first cars in which very extensive crash tests were conducted. Our Maritime blue Mercedes 420 SEL with blue Pullman interior was delivered by Mercedes Japan to its first owner on May 1, 1991.

The car was imported into Europe via the Netherlands in August 2013 to be purchased by the current owner in Belgium in December 2017.

Upon arrival in 2013, the car received a major service at 93,350km which included timing chain replacement.

The car is in completely original and very nicely maintained condition and still has most of its factory paint.
