Some cars take time to be fully understood. The Mercedes-Benz C55 AMG T-Modell is a perfect example of this.

At first glance, this is a particularly understated C-Class station wagon. But under the hood is the naturally aspirated 5.5-liter AMG V8, which produces 367 pk. No turbos, no all-wheel drive, and no flashy exterior. Just a big V8 up front, rear-wheel drive, and the kind of mechanical character that AMG is so beloved for today.

And this particular C55 T has a particularly interesting story.

The car was first registered on September 27, 2004, and its first registered owner was none other than Mercedes-AMG GmbH in Affalterbach. The original German vehicle registration certificate lists AMG at the well-known address at Daimlerstraße 1, along with its original German license plate, LB-MA 5045.

Based on the available documentation, we cannot say with certainty exactly what AMG used the car for. A press car, a demo car, or an internal AMG car are all possibilities, but we have no evidence of that at this time. What is clear, however, is that his career began at Mercedes-AMG itself.

Its configuration also fits perfectly with the car’s unique character. In addition to the 5.5-liter AMG V8, it was equipped with, among other things, 18-inch AMG wheels, AMG Styling, a power glass sunroof, COMAND APS, Harman Kardon Logic 7, bi-xenon headlights, Parktronic, memory seats, and power-folding mirrors.

After its time at AMG, the C55 ended up in private hands. What follows is a particularly well-documented history of Germany and, later, Belgium. The file includes the original service manual, Mercedes-Benz invoices, maintenance invoices, and various official inspection documents, making the car fully documented.

The C55 AMG T belongs to a generation of AMG models that will likely never return. A relatively compact and understated station wagon in which Mercedes-AMG installed a 5.5-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine. A car that lets you set off on a trip with the whole family without any hassle and that makes it clear right from the moment you start it up that this is no ordinary C-Class.

Furthermore, the C55 T is extremely rare. Only about 4,600 C55 AMG models were produced, and of those, only 595 were T-Modell versions. This makes the station wagon considerably rarer than the sedan.

Low production volume, an atmospheric AMG V8, a thoroughly documented history, and an initial registration in the name of Mercedes-AMG GmbH in Affalterbach.

For us, this is exactly the kind of “youngtimer” that’s becoming harder and harder to find: discreet enough to stay under the radar for years, but with all the features collectors are looking for today.

An AMG for the connoisseur. And one with a story that literally begins in Affalterbach.
