In 1996, Ferrari replaced their flagship mid-engined Testarossa with the 550 Maranello. The 550 signaled a historic return to a front-engine/rear transaxle configuration that was last seen on the legendary 365 GTB/4 Daytona 25 years earlier, and this layout delivered a more comfortable and spacious interior when compared to the car’s mid-engined predecessor. The Ferrari 550’s 485 hp, 5.5-liter V-12 delivered tremendous performance as evidenced by a 0-100 km/h time in the low 4-second range, and a top speed of close to 320 km/h. Best of all, this performance seemed almost effortless thanks to power steering, a comfortable driving position, and an abundance of torque available from the engine at lower rpm.
Ferrari built 3083 550 Maranellos from 1996 through 2001, all with 6-speed manual gearboxes.
This Ferrari 550 in Rosso Corsa was delivered April 7th 1999 by Maranello di Modena Sport cars srl in Pesaro and has had two Italian owners until it came to its sole Belgian owner. The original service book shows all the services the car needs. In Italy the car was serviced by Ferrari dealers, in Belgium it was maintained by a Ferrari specialist. The last service dates from June 2020. During this service the following work was performed:
- airco compressor changed
- Timing belts changed
- Alternator and waterpomp/airco changed
- Gaskets air inlet changed
- Gaskets valve covers changed
- Oilfilter change
Since then the car has covered around 100km. So, the car is ready to be enjoyed without having to spend any money.
From factory this car has been delivered with the very rare, but very desirable Fiorano handling package! This kit offers shorter and stiffer springs, a more direct steering rack and special brake pads. The level of grip when pushing the car is non-negligible.
The car comes with its brown leather case containing all booklets. Furthermore, the leather tool kit is also present as well as the Ferrari tire kit.
Don’t wait until it’s too late to purchase a 550 for an ‘affordable’ price, and especially one with the desirable but rare Fiorance handling package!
