Volkswagen Golf 7.5 GTI TCR

The Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR is the “farewell version” of the seventh-generation Golf GTI. Those last three letters in its name stand for Touring Car Racing, the international touring car class that Volkswagen has been competing in with quite a bit of success since 2015. 

In any case, that TCR racing inspired VW to a not-so-strange thought. Why not make a special version of the Golf GTI, which has a few things in common with its racing brother?
For example, the 2.0-liter TSI engine produces 290 hp, which is 45 hp more than the strongest Golf GTI, the Performance, has to offer. Torque is also slightly (10 Nm) higher at 380 Nm. It has received a limited slip differential, to get the power onto the asphalt a little easier. And like the R, it has two extra radiators, to help with cooling.

That doesn’t miss the mark: it now goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds (it’s 6.2 seconds on the Performance), which is just seriously fast for a hot hatch. The top is a regulated 250 km/h, but you can opt to have the limiter removed: then it runs 260 km/h.

The Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR also looks more ferocious. This is ensured, for example, by the shiny black front splitter and rear diffuser, and the also black roof spoiler. Black mirror caps, stainless steel left and right exhausts and the dark red LED taillights are also special to the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR.

Our Golf GTI TCR was delivered new by garage Mertens to its first and only Belgian owner on June 14, 2019. The car was always maintained at garage Mertens (Volkswagen dealer) as part of a WeCare contract (free maintenance and factory warranty). This WeCare contract can be taken over for another 2 years if desired (85€ per month).
