The history of the BMW Z1 is beautiful: a group of BMW employees was allowed to design a car of the future in the late eighties. The Z1 was first called BMW ZT1, an abbreviation of Zukunft Technik. There was no deadline for the project and any idea was welcome. The team was led by two men who had already more than earned their spurs in the automotive world: Ulrich Bez, who headed the technical department, and Harm Lagaaij, who was responsible for the design. Bez and Lagaaij had previously worked together at Porsche. The basis of the Z1 design was soon put on paper and to everyone’s surprise the car went into production almost unchanged.

Ulrich Bez had a flawless sense of commerce: the doors, which slide into the sills, made the BMW Z1 so special that the car had to become a classic. Thanks to the high rigidity of the galvanized chassis, it is possible to drive with the doors open. It’s a chewed-out cliché, but the sense of freedom is enormous in the Z1 and is reminiscent of the British roadsters of the 1950s. This is the biggest charm of the BMW Z1: if you get the chance to drive the car, those doors have to go down.

This BMW Z1 in mint condition was delivered in 1992 to Martini I Conesa, a Spanish BMW dealer. He kept the car until 2016, after which it was imported to Germany to end up with its first real owner.

Until today this Z1 has only 25.270KM, which is very little for a Z1! The perfect condition in which it is, in combination with the low mileage, the beautiful black-black color combination and the presence of the maintenance history, makes this car a top investment!
