This breathtakingly beautiful example in Nero Metallic (colour code 602) is one of the most coveted models of all: it is a 1991 Twin Spark ASN, which stands for Allestimento Speciale Numerato. Known outside Italy as Limited Edition or Podium, it was a farewell of sorts, a farewell to one of the most beloved versions of the Alfa 75 when production of this model came to an end.

The appeal of these run-out models, whose mechanical specifications remained unchanged, lies firstly in their relative rarity, as only 3,500 Twin Spark ASNs were made, each bearing a plaque on the dashboard with the number of the specimen. Secondly, we must admit that these are perhaps the most beautiful 75s of all, as the ASN package puts the finishing touches to a shape that already has plenty of character and a unique personality.

The 2-litre inline-four uses the same aluminium block as Alfa’s classic twin-cam, but the showpiece is the new cylinder head design. The Twin Spark head’s two valves per cylinder were placed at a much tighter angle for better thermal efficiency and a straighter intake port.

Two spark plugs instead of the usual centre spark plug allowed the intake valve diameter to be increased and provided better controlled combustion, making the engine run smoother at partial throttle. The package was complemented by variable valve timing on the intake camshaft and a Bosch Motronic fuel injection system, and to say it was a success is an understatement.

With its 145 hp at 5800 rpm and a peak torque of 186 Nm at 4700 rpm, the Alfa 75 2.0 Twin Spark was a world of difference from the previous 2.0-litre car equipped with the old carburettor engine with twin camshaft. Equipped with a 25% limited slip differential as standard and capable of 200 km/h at idle, the 75 Twin Spark put Alfa Romeo back on the enthusiasts’ map.

The ’91 ASN models brought no technical changes, just a nice set of Speedline 14″ alloy wheels whose design approximated the rims of the SZ. So apart from this beautiful metallic black, the Alfa 75 Twin Spark ASN could also be finished in solid black or in red, silver and white.

The 75 ASN came standard with a leather steering wheel and gear knob, but much more importantly, with beautiful Recaro seats, whose upholstery, black on the bolsters and with a grey diagonal pattern in the centre.

Our Alfa 75 Twin Spart ASN, number 1662, was delivered to its first owner on 10 October 1991 by Tartarella SRL, Bari, Italy (the driver’s floor mat still bears the Tartarella logo…).

The first owner had the car until 2011 when he passed it on to the second owner who kept the car until 2016. The car was then sold to France to be housed in a nice car collection …

We found the car in this collection, with only 20,000km on the clock! Both inside and out, the car is almost like new! The tyres on the car are still the ones the car came from the factory with! Paintwork is 100% first paint and the front floor is still in the factory plastic!

We have had the car serviced at an Alfa Romeo dealer so everything has been checked and it is ready to enjoy….

Besides the original service booklet, the car comes with the italian owners history, the French histovec, multiple service invoices and an ASI certificate, proving the originality of the car!
