The 964 version of the Porsche 911 launched in 1989 was considered rather futuristic at the time due to the integration of the body-coloured bumpers. Looking back, the 964 now fits neatly into Porsche’s history leading up to the 993 models that said goodbye to a long history of air-cooled 911s.

Although the 964 looked quite similar to its predecessors, 87 percent of the components were new or redesigned, according to Porsche. The flat-six engine has been brought up to 3.6 liters and 250 hp and produces strong and stable torque.

The all-wheel drive Carrera 4 was the form in which the 964 made its debut in 1989.

The 964 appeals to Porsche enthusiasts today for its slightly more refined ride and handling (with coil springs and rear shock absorbers), and vastly improved interior comfort – including a full-length center console and height-adjustable leather seats – combined with an overall driving experience that is slightly more immediate compared to the 993 that followed.

The Targa version of the 964 Carrera 4 first appeared in the 1990 model year sales program. The idea was to offer the removable Targa roof one last time as part of the 964 generation. The 911 Carrera 4 Targa wonderfully combined the design language of the 1990s with the concept of the Targa safety convertible from the 1960s.

Today, the 911 Carrera 4 Targa is a sought-after modern classic, because only 1,329 units were produced.

This black 964 Carrera 4 Targa was delivered to its first owner on November 28, 1990 by the Porsche Gottfried Schultz Gmbh in Dusseldorf, Germany. The car has been meticulously maintained throughout its life and still largely wears its original factory paint!

The car was delivered ex works with the following options:

  • 437: 8-way electrically adjustable seat left
  • 438: 8-way electrically adjustable seat right
  • 454: Cruise control
  • 498: Without type designation
  • 562: Front airbags
  • 567: Colored windshield
  • 573: Airco
  • 659: On-board computer

The car is completely original, matching numbers and comes with full documentation, service book, tools and air compressor.

Over the past two years, more than €11,000 has been spent on maintenance.

As the 964 strikes a perfect balance between classic 911 looks and modern comfort, the 964 is in huge demand and prices are going up. So, now is the time to buy a 964 before it’s too late!
